Is Bollywood ready to take the Ice Bucket Challenge? South Indian actress Hansika Motwani kicks off the trend in India
The idea is simple: Take a bucket of ice water, dump it over your head, record it and post the video on social media.
It’s cold, it’s fun and it’s contagious. But these ice bucket challenges and similar social media-powered stunts also are raising awareness and money for causes such as Lou Gehrig’s disease, breast cancer and a camp for kids who have lost their fathers to war.
The Ice Bucket Challenge has attracted athletes, politicians, doctors, accountants and construction workers and even Hollywood celebrities!
From Oprah Winfrey’s screams that went viral to Bill Gates who took it a notch higher by engineering a structure to pour a bucket of ice cold water on him, the challenge reached epic proportions when celebrities showed interested in ALS. Charlie Sheen emptied a bucket of cash on himself and ice hockey player Paul Bissonnette got a helicopter to pour water on him!
The ALS Association’s national president, Barbara Newhouse, said donations to the national office have surged considerably.
The viral social media stunt is now gradually finding its way in India. You shouldn’t be surprised to see a host of Bollywood celebrities taking the challenge soon. In fact, Tamil cinema industry has taken the lead already. Kollywood star Hansika Motwani shared a YouTube video of herself taking the Ice Bucket Challenge and has nominated all her fans to take the challenge. Along with the actress, director Venkat Prabhu and playback singer Premgi Amaren have also accepted the challenge.
