    Bollywood is seeing a rise in remakes and sequels, borrowing plots from South films is the current trend. After the enormous success of Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Kabir Singh’, which was a remake of South film ‘Arjun Reddy’ featuring Vijay Devarakonda, Karan Johar lapped up the remake rights of ‘Dear Comrade’. And now, the makers of 2007 hit film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ are also coming up with a sequel to the original one, which was a remake of a hit South movie.
  2. ‘Kabir Singh’

    Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga recently remade his own classic Telugu cult film ‘Arjun Reddy’ in Hindi with Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. The Bollywood film, which was titled ‘Kabir Singh’, saw a stupendous response at the box-office and broke several records as it went on to collect nearly Rs 276 crore. The film also triggered a few controversies with its subject, leaving the audience divided. Shahid essayed the role of an alcoholic surgeon with such brilliance that currently he is reported to have been offered the lead role in South remakes of ‘Jersey’ as well as another Devarakonda film, ‘Dear Comrade’.

  3. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’

    Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan’s horror-comedy, which was helmed by Priyadarshan was a remake of Mohanlal and Shobana starrer Malayalam film ‘Manichitrathazhu’. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ is now all set to have a sequel with Kartik Aaryan replacing Akshay Kumar. For the female lead, fans are guessing Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor or Ananya Panday may feature opposite Kartik. While the first one raked in nearly Rs 50 crore at the box-office, we are eagerly waiting to see how would the sequel fare.

  4. ‘Baaghi 2’

    Tiger Shroff hasn’t missed a single opportunity to impress the critics and the audience since his Bollywood debut. The talented actor has carved a niche for himself and his high-octane ‘Baaghi’ franchise is a good example of his success. Even though the second instalment of the ‘Baaghi’ franchise marked his presence at the domestic box-office, it was too a remake of Telugu movie ‘Kshanam’. The film grabbed a lot of attention as Tiger appeared on the silver screen for the first time with his girlfriend Disha Patani and ripped apart several box-office records as it went on to cross the Rs 150 crore mark. Apart from their stellar performance, everyone was bedazzled by their impeccable chemistry as well.

  5. ‘Singham’

    Talented filmmaker Rohit Shetty, who is known for his action-packed car sequences, gave the Indian audience their very own super-talented cop with ‘Singham’. Even though the film was a remake of 2010 Tamil film with the same title, Ajay Devgn managed to weave his magic on the celluloid with his stunning performance and the film went on to collect nearly 100 crores. The film was appreciated so much so that Shetty then created his own Singham universe and came up with a sequel ‘Singham Returns’. The success of these two gave way to Ranveer Singh’s ‘Simmba’ and Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film ‘Sooryavanshi’ which are also an integral part of Shetty’s cop universe.

  6. ‘Bodyguard’

    Salman Khan reunited with Kareena Kapoor Khan to give his fans another blockbuster in the form of ‘Bodyguard’. The romantic-action flick, which was helmed by South director Siddique, was a remake of South film with the same name which managed to impress the audience and went on to collect almost 150 crores at the box-office. ‘Bodyguard’ not only managed to excel at the ticket counter but also brought back Salman’s career on the right track as well. The film saw the Bhaijaan of Bollywood in a completely different avatar altogether, which was loved by the audience and even critics hailed his act.
