Aishwarya Rai Bachchan felicitated at Miss World 2014
Miss South Africa, Rolene Strauss, was crowned as Miss World 2014 at the contest’s final in London on Sunday. The event also featured a special award for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for her commitment to ‘beauty with purpose’. Two decades ago she was crowned as the ‘Miss World’ in 1994. Described as the embodiment of beauty with purpose, Aishwarya is also seen as the most successful Miss World so far, a title she won 20 years ago.
In her acceptance speech she said “I stand here overwhelmed by this honour. I thank Miss World Organisation for such an incredible honour that I have received….To have the opportunity to hold the title, to wear the crown with pride.. that was my one time to go out there and experience beauty with a purpose…”
The award was for her charitable work with children with cleft palates since being made famous by Miss World. Aishwarya was accompanied by her husband Abhishek Bachchan, three year old daughter Aaradhya and mother Vrinda on the stage. Father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan also shared his joy by posting a picture from the do by writing “At the Miss World 2014 .. Aishwarya honoured .. Abhishek and Aaradhya join in at London .. Joy !”. Aishwarya who has given many hits in Bollywood is now a regular at the Cannes Film festival.
Meanwhile, India’s representative at Miss World this year, Koyal Rana, could only make it to top 10. The crown went to Miss South Africa who is the third Miss World from her country to win the title.
