‘2015’ the year of Bollywood sequels
Are sequels a sure shot formula to get the audience back to theatres? Well, brand does matter. Once a film and film’s characters become popular, filmmakers plan for its sequel. Few may disagree, but sequels do not always lack originality. With many sequels coming up in the year 2015, it is surely going to be the biggest year box office has ever seen.
WELCOME
Anees Bazmee is all set to direct sequel of movie ‘Welcome’ (2007). The sequel will be called ‘Welcome Back’. Like ‘Welcome’ this movie will be a multi starrer too. The cast will include John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Dimple Kapadia, Shruti Hassan to name a few. It is a January 23rd release and the music will be composed by Anu Malik and Anand Raj Anand.
OMG – OH MY GOD
This movie which was based on the concept of blind faith in God and how a common man dares to sue Him was adapted from the Gujrati play, Kanji Virudh Kanji. After its success at box office the filmmakers are geared up for a sequel. Expected to release on February 15th, the sequel will be co-produced by Akhay Kumar and Paresh Rawal.
ABCD – ANY BODY CAN DANCE
Choreographer turned director Remo D’Souza is making a sequel to his dance film ‘ABCD- Any Body Can Dance’ (2013). While ‘ABCD’ had professional dancers, the sequel will see Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor as the lead. Varun plays a waiter while Shraddha plays a hairdresser in the sequel. It is slated for release on June 26th.
NO ENTRY
After the success of Salman’s latest flick ‘Kick’, he will be soon seen in a double role in Anees Bazmee’s ‘No Entry Mein Entry’ which is sequel to ‘No entry’ (2005). The film will also cast Fardeen Khan and Anil Kapoor.
TANU WEDS MANU
Anand Rai’s ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ which was released in 2011 featured R Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut and Jimmy Shergill- all of whom will be seen in the film’s sequel too. The sequel will explore the conflict in marital life. Kangana will play a double role – one as Tanu, who is married to Manu and the other as a Haryanvi athlete.
THE XPOSE
Himesh Reshammiya’s movie is also geared up for a sequel. Directed by Anant Mahadevan, the sequel will cast Yo Yo Honey Singh, Sonali Raut, Zoya Afroz and Himesh. The sequel will be released on May 29th.
HOUSEFULL
While ‘Housefull’ and ‘Housefull 2’ were high on entertainment factor, part 3 promises to be no different. The movie will be directed by Sajid- Farhad starring Akshay Kumar Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh. According to a report, Sajid Nadiadwala said that he is confident the movie will be successful and will be a wholesome entertainment to the audience worldwide.
